Homesteading In The City

About

My family and I just moved to Toledo from the country in Erie MI.  We’re adjusting to city life slowly, but enjoying our new adventure and our much larger living space.  We were in a 2 bedroom apartment and made the move to a 4 bedroom house with a backyard!

My husband and I have three children, and a fourth on the way in November.  We are a homebirthing, homeschooling and homesteading family.  We are a Christian family, following the Lord the best we can each day, studying His word and sharing it with others.  We love the Lord and are bringing our chileren up in His ways.

I am a work at home mother.  I own Motherhood Naturally and Motherhood Naturally Publications.  Motherhood Naturally is a education and services business, serving expectant and new families with childbirth and new parent classes, free breastfeeding support, free classes and more.  Motherhood Naturally Publications is a publishing company I began a few years ago providing books and educational material on topics pertaining to natural family living.

I have a another site you may be interested in as well.  Heart & Soul Homestead (an informational website), is a how-to collection of articles i’ve compiled.  This was created back when I was living in an apartment so much of it pertains to apartment homesteading.

I’ve written this blog for a few reasons.  First and foremost in hopes that it can be a blessing to others, as I share the things we do in daily life here in the city, while following the homesteading lifestyle we love so much.  We’ve brought a bit of the country to our city dwelling, and while we hope to eventually make it back into the country with our own land to fulfill our dreams, we are doing the best with what we have available to us.  many people are under the impression that in order to homestead you need acres of land. That just is not true.  There is so much that can be done in the homesteading spirit while living in a city house, or even an apartment.

The Lord has put a ministry on my heart, that you’ll likely be reading about in this blog.  It is to start a self sufficiency ministry, helping those who are struggling to make a better life for themselves by learning the skills they need to be able to provide for their family, themselves.  Growing a garden, raising small livestock for meat, cooking from scratch, sewing clothing and accessories, living a frugal but fulfilling lifestyle.  Hopefully this will turn into something good for my community, and those who have experience with a self sufficiency or homesteading skill will hopefully share their knowledge with us!

    Congrats on your newest blessing.
God has been good. Your blog is so interesting. You are doing what I have done- but I did it backward. Raised the family and then began homesteading. Keep at it….
